Last Wednesday, Mai and I went out for our planned “movie date”. We watched Inception and Salt on the same day and I can say that I enjoyed both movies. Anyway, this post isn’t about those 2 movies, but, about where we had lunch. *grin*
The night before, Mai and I discussed (read: check menus, prices, etc) and decided on what new restaurant we’re going to try next. We found Tokyo Café‘s website and was immediately fascinated by the wide variety of dishes they have on their menu. Just look at these!
Note: This is just a part of their menu. If you want to check out all of it, please go to their website.
Mai and I were actually planning on ordering a light meal before we watch our first movie, but, we were really hungry by the time we arrived at MOA. So, we decided to order lunch instead.
By the way, I love, love, love Tokyo Café‘s logo design. I love the colors, everything! 🙂
And, I also love their presentation – on their menu and their display just outside their restaurant. It’s really inviting, don’t you think?
Since we decided to have lunch instead, we ordered their rice meals. We tried our best to keep our ordering short because we need to be at the cinema in an hour and 20 minutes. I know! We should’ve bought movie tickets at a later schedule so we can fully enjoy our meal. But, we had another movie scheduled after, so, we just wished they’d serve us quickly.
Good thing there were only a few people when we went into their restaurant so we were immediately attended to by one of their waiting staff. They were all very gracious and the girl who served us was really friendly and all smiley.
Tokyo Café‘s branch in MOA is a bit small. I mean, in the middle of our meal, people started pouring in because it was already lunch time. It got so hectic that some people had a hard time moving around their restaurant. But, it was cozy and you can really feel the warmth of the people there.
What I didn’t like is this part of their restaurant, pictured above. That’s a glass window. But, if you look at it, even from where I was sitting, it looked like an open door that anyone can go in and out of. It can easily fool an incoming customer since there were no signs or even a chair to indicate that no one’s supposed to come in there. I just wish no one accidentally bumps into this glass window or it’ll really cause some serious trouble.
Anyway, going back to the food, Mai and I were going back and forth with what we wanted to order because we wanted to try everything on their menu! *LOL* But, we ended up with ordering a salad, their rice meals, and a dessert.
First served was the Tokyo Caesar salad (Php 138.00).
It came with a light mayonnaise piquant dressing and topped with crisp bacon bits, croutons and parmesan cheese.
We really enjoyed the salad. The veggies were all fresh and crisp. The serving was good enough for the two of us so we’re pretty happy with it. Worth the price, if you ask us.
Then, came our iced teas. Mai ordered their Iced Peach Tea. I chose the usual, Iced Lemon Tea (left). They both cost Php 68.00. Mai enjoyed hers. Mine was just like Lipton Iced Tea. It was a bit bland for my taste.
By the way, they have this Lunch promo where you only need to pay Php 65.00 for one of their selected beverages and you’d get free Coffee Jelly. My Iced Lemon tea was covered by that promo so we were expecting our free Coffee Jelly by dessert time.
We were told, by the way, that our rice meals would take about 10 to 15 minutes to be served. I was really hoping they’d be served at the same time. But, Mai’s rice meal was served first. I really don’t like it when people on the same table are not served at the same time. I really expected more from Tokyo Café. So, that’s a negative point for me.
After a few minutes, my order was served. Take note that we ordered off their Light Rice Meals menu.
Loco Moco
Rice topped with burger patty, egg and demi sauce
(Php 135.00)
Omurice
Chicken ala pobre mixed rice topped with scrambled egg and demi sauce
(Php 135.00)
I was actually thinking twice about ordering their Omurice because I was afraid it won’t have actual chicken strips in it. But, I went ahead with it.
When I was already mixing and going through my Omurice, I found li’l strips of chicken and I thought it won’t really satisfy me. I guess I talked too soon. *LOL* It was actually good. I still wish we ordered a separate meat dish, but, overall, I was pretty happy with my Omurice.
Mai and I also enjoyed their rice, which made the whole meal far from being “light”. That and the demi sauce was a bit heavy for us, actually.
Mai was very happy with her Loco Moco, especially with her favorite Tabasco sauce.
I really thought the demi sauce would be too sweet for us. But, it wasn’t. It was just right and really good, if you ask me. I tried Mai’s Loco Moco, too, and the burger patty was really juicy.
While we’re almost done with our meals, we asked one of their waiting staff to bring us our dessert. They served us our free Coffee Jelly first. I really enjoyed it because I’m a coffee addict. Mai wasn’t so we weren’t able to finish everything.
I also didn’t finish my Coffee Jelly, as much as I wanted to, because I ordered a cake for dessert. We had to follow up twice before they served us our final order – Bluberry Cheesecake.
The Bluberry Cheesecake was so freaking yummy! I tell yah, I so love it! It’s really creamy, and not too sweet. I love the crunch the Graham cracker crust gives you when you bite into it.
Mai was already full so I had to finish more than half of it myself. *LOL* I didn’t mind since it wasn’t that sweet, anyway.
Final Rating – Tokyo Café at SM Mall of Asia
Overall, we had a really good meal at Tokyo Café.
We’ll definitely come back and try one of their lighter meals for snack time.
