If there’s one thing our refrigerator’s always have a stock of, it’ll be hotdogs. We love hotdogs because you can quickly cook them any way you want to serve for breakfast, snacks or even for lunch or dinner when no one at home feels like preparing anything real special. And we’ve bought, cooked and tasted almost all hotdogs we can find at the grocery so we knew we just had to give Robina Farms’ Big Boy Hotdogs a try too.
They come in 2 variants – regular and the cheese hotdogs. Shown here are their jumbo-sized hotdogs.
Here’s a closer look at Big Boy Jumbo hotdogs, which are about the same size as the other branded hotdogs.
Here at home, we usually love to boil our hotdogs. Why? No oil and boiling gives it a subtle, tasty flavor. And, so, we just gotta do it with Big Boy’s. We cooked them 2 ways actually – through boiling and grilling in our oven so we won’t have to use any more extra oil.
On their packaging, they recommend you cook them in a pan, starting off with a few tablespoons of water before adding oil later. This way, the hotdogs will be juicier. We also tried this on our second batch of Big Boy hotdogs the next day and they were indeed juicier. But, we’re still sticking with boiling or grilling.
What I observed after I boiled them is they don’t easily sag. Even after leaving them on a few minutes after they were cooked, the hotdogs were firm when I took them out of the boiling water. Something to note because the other hotdogs we’ve tried, they tend to be too soft after boiling that they’ll break apart when I remove them from the pot. Plus points for Big Boy Hotdogs for that. 🙂
Here are the hotdogs after we’ve boiled them…
…and oven-grilled them:
We cooked about 5 of each variant. As you can see from above, the cheese was already oozing out of the hotdogs. Yum!
Here’s a shot of the chunkiness of Robina Farms Big Boy hotdogs:
It’s real chunky. And since it’s from Robina Farms of Universal Robina Corporation’s Agro Industrial group. They’re from the same company that brought us some of the popular and quality food and snack brands like Chippy, Nova, Tostillas (my personal favorite!), Nips, Cloud-9, Maxx, and C2.
Robina Farms claim that these hotdogs and their other chicken and pork products are guaranteed fresh and of high quality as they are grown right in their OWN farms. Meaning they care and manage their own farms to ensure the high standards they provide their customers. Definitely, this is something we support and so we’re glad we did get to try these hotdogs.
About the taste, the boiled ones needed ketchup for complete enjoyment. But, the grilled and fried hotdogs were tasty. Ken loved them the most. Those two packs of hotdogs didn’t last 5 days with us. 😀
Robina Farms Big Boy hotdogs are now available at leading grocery stores and supermarkets in Luzon, including Robinsons, Puregold, Waltermart, Landmark, Ever and South Supermarkets. They’re available in 1kg, 500g and 230g packaging. They also have regular sized hotdogs if you prefer that.
