Cafe Jeepney : Buffet in Intercontinental Manila

Being a group-buying site frequent shopper, I actively check various deals sites to find out if they have anything new that I’d be interested to purchase. Since I haven’t bought anything from Deal Grocer yet since the 3rd quarter of last year, I decided to buy 2 half-priced vouchers for Cafe Jeepney’s banquet buffet that they were offering. I’ve done my research and I’ve read fellow food lovers enjoying their buffet spread, so I had some set expectations already.

Cafe Jeepney

This is a long overdue post. We dined here in December last year, but they’ve had their famous buffet for decades, so I don’t think there’ll be a lot of changes you can expect, except some of the dishes that were available during our visit might not be the same ones you’ll get when you dine in.

Cafe Jeepney is located inside the Intercontinental Manila in Makati, right beside Ascott Manila and across Glorietta 4. When you come in the front entrance, they’re on the right side. You’d see this:

As soon as you enter, you’d be welcomed by this cozy, well-lit dining area, with high walls and plenty of decors.

Marios Sunday Lunch Buffet

A few months ago, we went up to Baguio with a couple of fellow foodie friends and bloggers to celebrate Mario’s Restaurant‘s 40th year. Throughout our 2-day, 2-night stay, we enjoyed meals in their restaurant in Upper Session Road (watch out for part 2 of our feature). The whole Baguio trip concluded with a sumptuous meal at Mario’s Sunday Lunch Buffet.

Mario's Baguio, located at the Upper Session Road

Since this was an eat-all-you-can buffet, I initially thought that the dishes they’re going to serve won’t be the same as the ones on their regular menu. Most of the buffets we know only serve mediocre food compared to the items on their ala carte menu, but I was pleasantly surprised to know that Mario’s Sunday Lunch Buffet spread will give you a chance to enjoy their delicious regular menu dishes eat-all-you-can style.

Since I usually take a round of photos first before I eat, I initially planned on going to each buffet table armed with my camera. But, when I passed by the meat table, I couldn’t help, but pause my photo-taking. 😀

Cochinillo - roasted suckling pig

I went straight to get a serving of the Cochinillo, a suckling pig roasted to perfection! They serve this with lechon sauce, but the crispy, thick skin and the meat of the pig are flavorful enough on their own. I had to control myself and not get another serving of this. However, I couldn’t resist to take some from Ken’s plate when he went back for seconds. 😀

Roast Sirloin of Beef

They also have a big slab of Roast Sirloin of Beef, sliced as you order and then served with Brandied Peppercorn sauce.

Why You Should Stay at Hotel Elizabeth Baguio

In the first week of March, we were invited to go to Baguio by Mario’s restaurant in celebration of their 40th year. We were quite excited about it because it was the best way to escape the early summer heat here in Manila, especially after we found out that we were staying for 2 nights at the very luxurious Hotel Elizabeth.

Hotel Elizabeth in Baguio

Hotel Elizabeth Baguio, awarded as Baguio’s Hotel of the Year for 3 years, is managed by Fersal Hotel Group, the umbrella company that established Fersal Hotels here in Manila. Just by these facts alone, you’d expect a very memorable stay at the hotel. And that’s exactly what we got.

We arrived just in time for dinner at Hotel Elizabeth on a Friday night, March 9th. This was the day that they were also celebrating their 7th year as one of the top hotels in Baguio. We joined in the celebration and it was a truly fun night.

By the way, as soon as we made it to the hotel, we were all in awe at how beautiful it was. I had to take a photo of the hotel at night and just scroll down for the photo I took in the morning.

I absolutely adore these gazebos (photo was taken on the 5th floor). And the breeze wasn’t just cool, but it smelled of pine trees. Ahhhhh…. Baguio! How I love thee… let me count the ways! 😉

McDonald’s Eat All You Can Promo is TRUE!

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you check the date on the coupon below and when this post was published, you’ll see this is from 2012, not 2014. Thanks.

Earlier today, I saw someone tweeting about McDonald’s eat-all-you-can promo. My first thought was, “Are they crazy?!”. We’re also fans of McDonald’s and so just the thought of an unlimited offering of items on their menu drove me wild. Is it true?

McDonald's Baguio eat all you can buffet on March 26, 2012

Brian (The Philippines and Beyond), the guy who tweeted about it, shared with me the above photo that’s been spreading like wildfire. Upon further research, I learned it was posted on 9gag. Knowing the site, you’d think twice about believing anything posted there.

So, I posted the photo on our Facebook page and on my wall. I got a ton of responses (’cause I said walang KJ 😀 ) when I asked what item off McDo’s menu they’d want to get unlimited of, and we thought it was all a gag.

The sign clearly shows it’s McDonald’s branch in Baguio, along Session Road. Fortunately, someone from Baguio (shoutout to Clar!) replied to the thread saying it’s true, that she even has tickets to the buffet / eat-all-you-can happening on March 26, 2012. I requested for a photo and here it is:

McDonald's Baguio eat all you can buffet tickets 2012Credits to Baguio Food Adventures – Thank you Clar! 🙂

Not sure if they’re still selling tickets or they’re sold out. If you have any idea, let me know so we can update this.

Update: From Marianne Cristine: Not all the items on their menu are part of the promo. Since they’re only selling limited tickets, I think this is okay. If you’ll be there, we’d appreciate it if you’d share photos so we can post it here, with credits to you, of course. 🙂

Let’s set aside the health concerns and what-nots for now. No mentioning of having to request for a free quote for health reasons. Basta! ALL FOR FUN. I know a lot of you who aren’t from Baguio are also jealous that they have this promo there.

So, again, let me ask you a question: Which item off McDonald’s menu would you eat if you happen to get your hands on one of the eat-all-you-can buffet tickets?

I know Ken and I will have the same answers: fries and caramel sundae! 😀

Seoul Garden in SM North Edsa : Review

We were supposed to write a year-ender post for 2011 featuring our top favorite restaurants, food products and/or recipes/dishes we prepared, but since we still had a ton more reviews we haven’t posted yet, we decided to skip it this year and will do one next year instead. One of these uber delayed reviews is of Seoul Garden in SM North Edsa Annex.

Seoul Garden at SM Annex in North Edsa - CertifiedFoodies.com

When Ken and I have time to spare or we need to relax after hours of shopping, we usually end up at buffet style or eat-all-you-can restaurants. Though we spend a lot of time together at home, sometimes, talking about tasks seem to be more effective when we do it somewhere else. That afternoon in July 2011, we had hours to spare because we were scheduled for a Harry Potter movie screening late in the evening. Ken insisted he wanted to watch on the first day so we ended up with the last screening time. 😐

We decided to check out the restaurants at the newly-renovated SM Annex building. First restaurant we considered was Seoul Garden because, at that time, it was the least busy of all the places there.

F Restaurant : A Flavorful Feast at BGC

It was the first day of December last year (sounded like a really long time ago eh?), we were headed to Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. It was a very familiar place to me since I used to work there at ePLDT Ventus so now, I always look forward to any opportunity that brings me to this same place where I spent two years working. This time though, the whole BGC is populated with more establishments everywhere you look and it’ll take some time before we can try all the restaurants here.

Best Western Premier F1 Hotel at The Fort, Taguig

The reason why we were at BGC : we were invited to dine at F Restaurant on the fifth floor of Best Western Premier F1 Hotel, the first hotel in the area and is located (strategically perhaps) in front of St. Luke’s Medical Center. Just by the sound of the name of the hotel where the resto is located, you’d know our expectations were set high. 🙂

As soon as we entered, we were welcomed with a very festive scene – beside two tall Christmas trees is this house made of candies, marshmallows, and other goodies. I began to understand Hansel and Gretel. 😉

Cabalen Eat All You Can Buffet at Trinoma

We love buffet style restaurants because we get to taste a wide variety of dishes while taking control of the ones that we want to have more of. And in our experience, most of the time, it was worth the price. So, we’ll be featuring more eat all you can buffet-style food places here, like Cabalen restaurant.

Cabalen Eat All You Can Filipino Asian Favorites

One weekend in June, our family was out for a whole afternoon of food trips and we were scheduled to watch a flick around 3pm. So, we had a lot of time to spare for lunch. I’ve been wanting to eat at Cabalen for the longest time so we decided to head on there to try their eat-all-you-can buffet.

Cabalen’s buffet in Trinoma features Filipino and Asian dishes. The price is Php 468 per adult, Php 270 for kids (4 feet and below). This buffet is available only at their branches in SM Clark, SM Mall of Asia Glorietta and SM Megamall. Their other branches only feature Filipino dishes.

Unlimited Treats from Cravings Restaurant

Last October, Ken and I were invited to try out C2 Classic Cuisine Restaurant’s Signature Series featuring Pinoy Favorites like their own version of Kare-kare and Bangus Belly (our post about this is up next!). Since the closest to us was C2 in Cravings Katipunan, there we went.

Cravings Restaurant

As soon as we entered the restaurant, this display of cakes made us look forward to the end of our meal. Our invite from C2 didn’t include desserts, but we found out Cravings has an Unlimited Cakes and Coffee promo for only Php 150 per person. How can we pass that up?! 😀

How can you resist not availing of their unlimited cake promo

Their unlimited menu includes a wide selection of cakes, but you can only order their four featured cakes at the time you were dining in. When we were there though, we had five different cakes because we had to stay a bit longer as Ken prepared a list for our shopping for our birthday celebration.

Lola Maria Restaurant at The Legend Villas

Back in August, I invited three of my blogger friends to dine with me at Lola Maria Restaurant at The Legend Villas at Pioneer Street in Mandaluyong City. I had four (4) vouchers I bought from Mega Deals (oh, don’t you just love these group-buying sites!) that we decided to use. We agreed they’d be tagging along their families and I’ll be with Ken, like always. 🙂

Lola Maria at The Legend Villas

It was easy to locate The Legend Villas. Lola Maria is right at the entrance so you’d immediately see it. The outside of the restaurant reminds me of old Spanish homes. And when we entered, even the interior setup gives you a somewhat nostalgic feeling, like you’re inside the house of a family of mestizos back in the days.
