Beat the Heat with Jollibee Sundae Mix-ins MILO Blast

One of the many reasons why we love food is because of how it can bring back memories from as far as we can remember. I know a lot of you can relate to this. I still get surprised by what memories food trigger, no matter how simple the preparation was. Flavor combinations, old and new, can bring you back to as far as your early childhood, just like how the new Jollibee Sundae Mix-ins MILO Blast reminded me of how I used to drizzle Milo powder on my ice cream during hot summer days like today.

Jollibee Tuna Pie is Back (Limited Time only!)

For most of us, come Lenten season, we take it to heart to fast or go on a meatless diet. We are certified meat lovers and I believe that those of you who share the same love for anything with generous amounts of beef, pork or chicken understand how hard it is to give up meat during this time. Well, guess what. Avoiding meat don’t have to be boring or bland ’cause Jollibee Tuna Pie is back and it’s just so timely.

I am a big fan of Jollibee’s Tuna Pie. Back when I was still working somewhere in Ortigas, I remember taking a cab on my way to work, asking the driver to go to the nearest Jollibee drive-thru and ordering this to start my day as I work nights and didn’t want to eat rice. It’s good enough to get me through hours of work before I needed to get a complete meal in the morning, before my shift ends (breakfast time).

I love Jollibee Tuna Pie’s generous filling of chunky tuna flakes, the creamy peppery sauce and vegetables that accompany it, and the crispy crust wrapper. I can gobble up one of these in a few minutes! And I know a lot of of you already have an idea how delicious they are.

4 Fingers Crispy Chicken, Philippines

When I was in Singapore last year, my housemates, Rey and Cindy, took me out for dinner at 4 Fingers, which is a small food joint in ION Orchard that they said serves the best crispy chicken in the city.

My friends were right. The crispy fried chickens were so delicious and crispy that I just had to come back for more. And I honestly felt sad when it was time for me to return to the Philippines, thinking Iâ€™ll never have those scrumptious chickens ever again.

But after almost a year since having my last piece of 4 Fingersâ€™ Crispy Chicken, imagine my surprise when my sister, Mhel, and I found a newly opened 4 Fingers store by accident in SM City North EDSA, Quezon City. We quickly found ourselves a table, settled down, and ordered our food.

I immediately thought it would be a fun opportunity for me and my classmates from culinary school to finally bond. Weâ€™ve kept contact through Facebook and Friendster, but nothing can really compare to the joy of â€œphysicallyâ€ enjoying a delicious dinner with people who are important to you.

Succulent Chicken Goodness from World Chicken

Whenever my bro and I see a World Chicken stall, may it be in Trinoma, Gateway Mall or in Glorietta, we can’t help but wrestle with the idea of ordering their oh-so tender grilled chicken. If not for our hunger for something new to feature on this blog, we would’ve eaten there every time (I guess thatâ€™s something weâ€™re actually thankful for :D). In fact, my bro loved them so much that they were the inspiration behind his Creamy Pesto Pasta and Grilled Chicken recipe.

Ken’s pesto pasta is WAY more delicious than World Chicken’s,
but the ingredients are a li’l on the expensive side.

What is it about World Chicken that makes it one of our favorites? That’s a question that’s pretty easy to answer – it’s the tenderness of the flame-grilled boneless chicken they serve that’s very moist, and the wide variety of options for sauces, carbohydrates, and side dishes, PLUS affordability.

McDonald’s Coca Cola Can Glasses are Here!

I used to collect a lot of things back when we were still living in Navotas. After we moved, most of my collections got lost and some were given away to friends and relatives. And one of them was my McDonaldâ€™s Coca Cola Glasses collection from 2009, pictured below.

McDonald’s Shake Shake Fries, Kung Fu Panda 2 Happy Meal are Back!

Before we headed home earlier from a fun blogger event, my bro and I, with my blogger friend Divine, headed to McDonald’s in Munoz. I’ve been craving for their McChicken Sandwich (check this recipe) so I was glad that the venue for the event was a jeepney ride away from the nearest McDo.

I didn’t get to take a photo of my McChicken sandwich ’cause Divine and I were busy chattering away :D. But, when we last ate at McDo in Buendia, I took photos of the packaging or box for my burger, including the Heinz ketchup sachets.

The Munoz branch wasn’t using the same packaging though. Anyway, since I was eyeing for the McChicken sandwich, I completely forgot that the McDonald’s Shake Shake Fries is back.

Yes! They’re back, along with some Kung Fu Panda 2 fun (ooohh, we’ve yet to watch it!). There are 2 flavors to choose from for your McDonald’s Shake Shake fries – Cheese Rush and BBQ Kick – for only Php 55 each. You can also go for the Shake Shake Fries combo where you can opt for a Watermelon or Green Apple Sprite McFloat for only Php 85. But, if you prefer Coke McFloat, it’s priced at Php 80 only.

Golden Fortune in Victory Mall, Caloocan (Monumento)

Ever since my mother saw the fruits of my labor from blogging and became supportive (read: active), most especially here on Certified Foodies, whenever we go out, she NEVER wanted to eat anywhere we’ve already dined in before. So, when we went grocery-shopping a few weeks ago at Victory Mall, she convinced me to eat at Golden Fortune Restaurant.

I’ve been seeing this Chinese restaurant for like a hundred times over because I usually frequent Victory Mall when I buy inks for my printers. So, I was looking forward to trying their food, especially because I wanted to know how they compare to Wai Ying Fast Food Restaurant in Binondo.

The ambiance inside Golden Fortune’s branch in Victory Mall is surprisingly warm considering they’re at a VERY crowded mini-mall at the heart of Monumento, one of the busiest places in the Metro. I guess it’s mainly because of the lighting. But, the waiting staff were also very accommodating. We didn’t have to wait long for our orders and the woman waiting on us seemed okay with our questions. She was all-smiles and was even checking if we needed anything. That’s awesome customer service, if you ask me. I forgot to get her name though. 🙁

Anyway, as soon as I saw the menu of Golden Fortune, I heard my tummy grumble. Aside from the dumplings and rolls one can order, their rice meals (Che Chai Rice) were also very tempting. There are a lot of food choices on their menu! And my first impression was they were all reasonably priced.

I wanted to try Golden Fortune’s Hongkong Lechon that they’ve been advertising on their walls. So, that’s what I ordered. I ordered the Hongkong Lechon Che Chai Rice for Php 88.00. You can order this with unlimited rice by just adding Php 8.00. But, since my mom was not ordering their rice meals and I’m trying to lessen my carbs intake, I didn’t avail of their unlimited rice promo. 😀

As you can see, for Php 88, the serving is big enough for someone with my appetite (I shared, promise!). 😀 I love the crispiness of the pork skin and the flavor of their lechon. I also liked that there wasn’t much fat on the lechon slices I got.

We ordered Golden Fortune Fried Rice, Php 198.00. Honestly, it was a bit expensive for me since the serving wasn’t that much. Good thing it was good, with all the carrots, shrimps, green pepper, and cabbage adding more flavor to it. I expected it to be a little oily, but it wasn’t. So, I was still very satisfied with this order.
